  Agri-Tourism Workshops
Agri-Tourism workshops were held in three different locations across the Province in April 2000. The Ontario Agricultural Training Institute was contracted to offer their workshop titled "Open Your Gates To Tourism". 40 participants attended the workshops and were provided with the information and skills to establish an agri-tourism business, interact with customers, and develop media promotions, as a means to diversify their farms and/or improve their current agri-tourism venture.
  Resource Facilitator
This project involves partnering with the Newfoundland and Labrador Fur Breeders Association and the National Research Council to employ a Resource Facilitator to research and develop an Industry Development Guide, and perform farm feasibility analysis for the fur industry. The research information gathered will provide a more efficient means of reaching farm and industry potential.
  Agriculture Business Profiles
Through this project agricultural opportunities will be researched and identified for the Province, and business profiles will be prepared for those opportunities indicating the greatest potential. An economist will be employed for a twelve month term for this purpose. These profiles will benefit farmers in assessing opportunities for farm expansion and diversification. The profiles will detail production, marketing, secondary processing, human resource requirements, regulatory issues, establishment costs, expected costs and returns, and management issues for each opportunity.
  Speakers Fund
The Speakers Fund will provide an opportunity for agricultural organizations, farm management clubs, commodity boards, agricultural societies, or any group of farmers to learn from experts and professionals on various farm business management topics such as marketing, business planning, agricultural diversification, human resource management, environmental management, financial and debt management, economics of production planning, farm income tax planning, farm succession, risk management, and much more. Farmers will enhance their farm business management skills and knowledge enabling them to better manage their farms. Farmers will be kept abreast of global issues facing agriculture, new technology, and improved business management practices.
  Financial Management
Workshops will be offered to enhance the financial management practices of farmers. Two day workshops in Preparing and Understanding Financial Statements and Farm Business Analysis will be offered at various locations across Newfoundland and Labrador. Both of these workshops will greatly enhance farmers’ ability to financially manage their businesses.
  Farmers Fall Forum 2000
In partnership with the Mariner Resource Opportunities Network Inc, a regional economic development board for the Bay de Verde Peninsula, the FBMP will fund a Farmers Fall Forum 2000. This Forum will provide farmers with the farm business management information needed to assess new opportunities and help strengthen their businesses. The Forum will help identify new opportunities such as farm based tourism, the potential for a regional farmers market, the marketing opportunities for under-utilized crops, and diversification into specialty crops.
  Dairy Management Workshop
In partnership with the Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador a Risk Management Workshop will be held at three locations across the province. The workshops will cover areas of WTO Trade Agreements, understanding financial statements, cost of production comparative analysis, quota management strategies, decision making strategies, financing considerations and strategies, and what makes a good farm manager.
